Special submanifolds in Joyce’s generalised Kummer constructions |

Associative and coassociative submanifolds are the natural subobjects of 7-dimensional G2-manifolds. Besides having minimal volume among all submanifolds realising a fixed homology class, they play a prominent role in higher-dimensional gauge theory. In this talk we will focus on G2-manifolds arising as desingularisations of flat orbifolds and explain a method of constructing coassociatives inside them. The novelty of this construction is that the volume of these submanifolds tends to zero as the ambient manifold approaches its orbifold-limit. |
